February and March have been the time to get the heating system in, plumbing roughed in and electric roughed in. The goal is an electrical inspection and a framing/mechanical inspection. At this posting we are getting close.
About the heating: there is a wood gasification furnace that heats a fluid that in turn heats water for use in the house via a heat exchanger. Winter heat will be wood and electric (when needed) in the hydronic floor pipes that are PEX plastic. There is a "ductless heat pump" for hot air and air conditioning as a back up and when heat is needed quickly as the hot water is slow to react. More on this as the systems become finished.
Mike Long is a helper on the job and has done much sanding and application of teak oil to the beams and decking in the ceiling.
Now the fireplace is done except for the stucco on the chimney. It is a modified Rumford design that allows for good drafting of the smoke.
How cliche' would I sound if I said it looked "authentic". It looks so cool. I have to say it.... really authentic. It's just beautiful!
